Community honours Ekeji

BARELY one month after being honoured by an Abuja-based tabloid, Nigerian Pilot, the Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Dr. Patrick Ekeji, would have another feather added to his cap on today.Ekeji, this time, is being honoured by his people, Aboh Mbaise, for his contributions to the development of Mbaise and the country, especially in the area of sports and youth empowerment.In a release made available to the media, spokesman of the organising committee, Kennedy Onwunali, disclosed that the award would be bestowed on Ekeji at the NSC Mini Sports Centre at Nkwogwu, Nguru, Mbaise. According to him, Mbaise people are proud of Ekeji's achievements.He added: 'We are honouring Ekeji for his immense contributions to the development of Mbaise nation, not just in the area of sports but also in other spheres of life. We are equally impressed with the job he is doing at the national level, where he has risen to the pinnacle of sports administration.'Also speaking on the award, the recipient, Ekeji, said he was happy that today's award was coming from his primary constituency, even as he thanked his people for finding him worthy of the award.A defunct Green Eagles defender in the 80s, Ekeji had through a dint of hard work risen to become the NSC Director General. The University of Nigeria, Nsukka trained sports administrator, before moving to NSC,lectured at the National Institute for Sports, coached the Super Eagles, the Sierra Leonean national team and the now disbanded ACB FC of Lagos.
