Lawmaker lauds Mimiko's achievement

Published by Punch on Wed, 28 Dec 2011

A member of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr. Akindele Adeniyi, said on Tuesday that Governor Olusegun Mimiko would win the 2012 governorship election under the banner of the Labour Party because of his numerous achievements in the past three years.Adeniyi stated this while speaking with journalists at Iju/Ita-Ogbolu, headquarters of Akure North Local Government Area.He also presented empowerment items worth over N20m to some people in the council. The items were provided by the interim Chairman of the council, Mr. Femi Ofakurin, as part of his efforts to make the people of the council economically independent. The items included 16 motorcycles, 12 gulf cars, sewing machines, hair dressing equipment, generators deep freezers and computers, among others. The lawmaker explained that the achievements of Mimiko, which cut across all sectors of the states economy, placed him in a better position to actualise his second term ambition. He said, "There is no vacancy in the Algabaka Government House. The Labour Party remains the only visible political party in the state. None of the aspirants who have shown interest in governing the state can match Mimikos performance."Most of the opposition political parties are only popular on the pages of the newspapers. "This will give the LP an edge in the next governorship election."His achievements are there for everybody to see. He has constructed about 14 mega schools to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor; he built the Mother and Child Hospital, and the tomato factory in Arigidi-Akoko."Adeniyi also promised to empower artisans, building of neigbourhood markets, auto marts, the urban renewal programme in Akure, expansion of major roads in selected towns and payment of bursaries and scholarship awards as some of the governors achievements.
