Amuneke unhappy with pay package rumour

Published by Tribune on Wed, 28 Dec 2011

ASSISTANT coach of the Nigeria U17 team Emmanuel Amuneke has refuted a story that he has rejected a pay offer by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).The former Eagles forward also said he was disappointed with statements credited to the chairman of NFF technical committee Chris Green in this regard.Amuneke was recently named as one of the assistants to Nigeria U17 coach Manu Garba. The other assistants are Nduka Ugbade and Emeka Amadi. The NFF has offered U-17 assistant coaches a monthly salary of N350,000 but they have asked for more."I am shocked at the report after reading it online here in Spain. As a person, and for those that know me very well, it's my country first before any other thing,' Amuneke told MTNFootball.com'But in any case the federation have not contacted me for discussion on my take-home. But even if they have opened negotiations, it's with my manager whom I am yet to speak with. So, it's totally wrong for anyone to say I rejected any offer."He added: "I want to also note that even if an offer is made to me it would be unprofessional of me to begin to discuss my take-home agreed with the Federation.'I also read the statement attributed to the chairman technical committee and I must confess that is not professional. Even if he heard rumours that I rejected the salary, which he didn't discuss with me, I think the right thing to do would have been to call me."The 1994 Nations Cup hero and scorer of the winner that gave Africa and Nigeria an historic Olympic Gold said: "I have served my country before and will continue to serve my country no matter what. But we must do the right things."
