NANF threatens fresh battle

Published by Tribune on Wed, 28 Dec 2011

PRESIDENT of the National Association of Nigerian Footballers (NANF) Harrison Jalla said the body will not hesitate to resume legal battle against the board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) if the report of the Dominic Oneya led commiittee was not implemented.Jalla, guest speaker at a seminar titled, Sports Journalism: Towards professionalism, Objectivity and Fairness organised by the Oyo State chapter of the Sports Writers' Association of Nigeria (SWAN) held at the media centre of the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan said the implementation of the committe's report was vital to the progress of the game in the country. The ex- footballer who was part of the committee set up by the immediate former Sports Minister, Alhaji Suleiman Yusuf to look into ways out of the crisis facing Nigeria's football hinted that the committee did a thorough job before arriving at the recommendations made in the report which has since been submited to the minister before he resigned his position.Jalla maintained that the Aminu Maigari-led board was illegal just as he described as untrue claims by the board that a court judgement recently declared the body legal."We are still waiting for the copy of the judgement to be published for the public to see. Up till now, nothing like that has been done."He also blamed the sporting press for giving the story wide publicity without bothering to find out its authenticity just as he queried the rationale behind the arrest of a journalist, Jide Fashikun by the police on the order of the NFF.Jalla therefore called for the release of Fashikun's laptop which he said was still being held by the police
