Kaita hopes for Super Eagles' return

Published by Tribune on Wed, 28 Dec 2011

NIGERIA international Sani Kaita has said he is now looking forward to rejoining the Super Eagles in the New Year after he was frozen out of the team the whole of 2011.'It felt very strange not to play for my country all through this year, but I believe all that will change in the coming year,' Kaita told MTNFootball.com.'My commitment to Nigeria is not negotiable.'New Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has promised to recall some of the stars like Kaita, John Utaka and Yakubu Aiyegbeni who were overlooked by his predecessor Samson Siasia.Kaita last played in the 2010 World Cup game against Greece in which he was sent off for a needless foul.Nigeria will begin its qualifying campaign for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by South Africa in Kigali on February 29 against Rwanda.Kaita has now recovered fully from a training ground injury. The defensive midfielder suffered a knock below his knee while training with his Ukrainian club Tavriya and was sidelined for three weeks.'I'm fit again after I completed my rehabilitation and I'm now on holidays,' Kaita informed MTNFootball.com'I picked up the injury in training and was out of action for three weeks. I would even have played our last league game before the break but the club wanted me to have more rest.'Kaita will rejoin his team, which is seventh on the table with 30 points from 20 matches, in the first week of the New Year ahead of overseas training either in Cyprus or Turkey before the season resumes.'I cannot wait to be back on the pitch because I strongly believe that next year will be a lot more fulfilling for me both with my club and the Super Eagles,' he said.
