Fashola may ban Okada in Lagos

There were indications yesterday that the Lagos State Government would soon impose outright ban on operation of commercial motorbikes, otherwise called Okada within Lagos metropolis, restricting their operation to rural communities, lacking efficient means of transportation.This followed a recommendation by a 32-man security committee constituted by Governor Babatunde Fashola to determine the future of motorcycle operators in Lagos. Chairman of the Committee, Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Olusegun Kazeem (rtd), said 492 robbery cases were carried out in the state aided by motorbikes between January and November 2011 with October and November accounting for 79 of such cases.
