ASUU strike forces shift in West African varsities' games

Although its lecturers are not part of the ongoing industrial strike, authorities of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) have been forced to shift the 13th edition of the West Africa University Games (WAUG), which it is hosting.No new date has been decided for the game which brings together students from across the west coast of Africa, although stakeholders want the game to come up now or at a date not later than March 2012. Vice- Chancellor, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, at his last media briefing, hinted that the school had then spent close to N400 million in preparing for the games.Part of the cost include contract for the rehabilitation of the school's old pavilion and the construction of an office complex at a cost of N24.5 million, building of a new pavilion at the cost of N71 million, and the refurbishment of the institution's indoor sports hall and the fitness centre at the rate of N33 million.
