He is always the first to come in and the last to leave. Rumor even had it that he came in on weekends too.'What can I help you with' Jane askedMichael looked up from his computer and looked up to the woman that has haunted him in his dream every night for the past two weeks.'Please sit down' he said'Sir, if you don't mind I would like to leave the office in the next 15minutes, I have other engagements' Jane replied as she sat on one of the seats.'Hmm, Do you have a date with your boyfriend'' He asked, silently praying she would say no'I don't have a boy friend, I am going on a date with my girlfriends, and we meet up once every week.'Well, I don't think you will want to leave again when you hear what I have to say' Michael said as he looked up from his computer which he has been engrossed with.'Who handles the financial record of the company'' Michael asked'Mr Okey Eze, he is currently on leave, that's why you have not met him yet, any problems'''Actually, there is, someone has been siphoning the company's money for the past five months in bits and pieces but a large amount recently went missing' Michael said looking straight at her so he won't miss her reaction. He wanted to be sure she knew nothing about it before giving her the full story. For five seconds Jane could speak, she looked at him mouth wide open'How'' Was the only thing she could ask when she recollected herself. 'I mean, everyone here is loyal to Mr. Phillips Snr. I don't believe anybody will want to ruin him'.'Even for 30 million naira'' Phillips asked'What!! Someone stole 30 million naira'''Yes, someone stole a total of 35 million naira. From my research, it started a year ago with little amounts going missing, then 3months ago 30 million naira was stolen.'Jane was still in shock and embarrassed. If this was true then she was incompetent, how could she be in this company and not aware of this and Michael that has been here for barely two weeks figured it out''How did you discover all this'' Jane asked'After I started looking at the reason why the company barely broke even last month, I found out that some amount of money recorded for the purchase of equipments were been sent into different accounts. On further research, I discovered that one of the accounts receiving the money was a company that did not exist. I went to the bank yesterday to make inquiries about the transactions. The manager told me that someone from our company comes in every month to make the transactions and all the papers used for the transaction are legit. Still, there were no equipments totaling to such amount that has been purchased for the past one year. It led me to the conclusion that someone or some people are siphoning money from the company.'Shocked, Jane continued to stare at him when he finished narrating what he knows. 'I don't want to believe all these, I mean why will someone want to bring down your father' He is the nicest boss and compensates his workers well' She said when she was finally recovered from the shock.'Well, I plan to find out who is behind it. I have a meeting with the bank manager so I can see the records and possibly the security cam footage of the last transaction. I would like for you to come with me, I need someone who has been with this company for long and also someone I can trust'.'Alright, let me just call my friends and cancel lunch. How many minutes do we have before the meeting'' Michael looked at his watch, 'we have 15 minutes, and we should leave now. You can call them on our way'.When they got to the bank they moved straight to the manager's office since he was already expecting them.'Good day please, can you inform the manager that Mr. Michael is here'' Michael said to the secretary.'Oh you can go in he is expecting you'.'Thank you very much' Michael replied with a smile that got the secretary blushing.Inside the office, Jane was wondering what they will find out in that camera footage, who could be the one trying to destroy the company.'Thank you for meeting with us' Michael said'It's not a problem but you know I am not suppose to release this tape to you without the necessary authority but I am doing it for you as friend' the manager said while bringing out the file from one of his drawers.'Yes, I know and I really appreciate it'.'Here are the records of the transaction made 3 months ago'Michael took it and looked at Jane motioning for her to come closer so they can look at itAs they flipped all the way through the record book, they noticed that everything was in order, with the proper signatures. Nothing seemed to be out of place; whoever was carrying out the transaction was very good.'If you are done with that, you can come closer to see the security footage' the manager saidMichael and Jane stood up and went closer to have a look at the computer and got the shock of their lives.On the footage was Mr. Phillips Snr making the transactions.........to be continued
