Boroffice denies scuttling Agunloye's ambition in ACN

Published by Punch on Thu, 29 Dec 2011

The Senator representing Ondo North at the National Assembly, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice, has said his decision to join the Action Congress of Nigeria was not aimed at scuttling the governorship ambition of Dr. Olu Agunloye, his opponent in the April 2011 general election.Boroffice, who was elected to the Senate under the LP stated this on Wednesday at Oka-Akoko while addressing journalists shortly before he formally defected to the ACN.He explained that his defection to the ACN was not for the purpose of contesting the 2012 governorship election in the state. He said, It is not true that I am an anointed candidate of the leadership of the ACN. I am not being imposed as the governorship candidate. The leaders will choose the candidate at the appropriate time and we will abide by whatever decision they take.Boroffice, who described Agunloye as his brother, advised the people against wrong insinuations as none of them had been given the ticket of the party. It is wrong to say that I am joining the ACN to snatch the governorship ticket from Dr. Agunloye. All of us are going to the party to work and ensure its victory in the 2012 governorship election, he said.He explained that he dumped the LP because the party had been allegedly hijacked by Governor Olusegun Mimiko, a development which, according to him, had led to its factionalisation with two people emerging as the state chairman. He also stressed the need to properly integrate the people of Ondo State into the Yoruba politics through the ACN.
