Published by Tribune on Thu, 29 Dec 2011

Current African women best footballer of year Perpetua Nkwocha and Nigeria''s all time female football highest goal scorer has concluded plans to retire from active football, just as she hopes to take up coaching after quitting football. The decision to quit football, she told cafonline yesterday, was to impact her football experience and knowledge on younger generation of female footballers. The four-time winner of the Women African Footballer of the year award said the time had come for her to hang her boot in order to give the upcoming female footballers the chance to exhibit their talents and help the country achieve greater success in female football.'From next year, there will be no Perpetua Nkwocha on the field. I will hang my boots after playing for more than a decade. I love coaching and will one day want to coach to impact my knowledge on the younger generation.'When commenting about the CAF women's best footballer in Africa title for a record fourth time. she said: '' I feel great to be honoured in that regard, being the first woman to win the footballer of the year for the fourth time, what more do I ask for' I am humbled by the recognition,'' she said.''It means a lot to me. In fact, I can show my children how my contribution to African football was recognised. I have a great story to tell one day. The award is great in the sense that at least my contributions have not been unnoticed,'' she said.
