WHAT could be the attraction of a 67- year-old man for an 11-year-old girl that made him decide that she would be his sex partner in exchange for the N50 he was giving her' This is what the officer-in-charge of human trafficking and her team at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan has been trying to find out from one Pa Nwachukwu Ilorah.Nigerian Tribune gathered that the sextuagenarian, who lives at Lalupon Community in the outskirts of Ibadan city, was arrested by the police at Iyana Offa Division on Friday December 2 after the father of the girl, Banke (not real name) reported that the suspect had been having carnal knowledge of his daughter. Banke's father, a Ghanaian married to a Nigerian, had gone to the police on November 25 to report that he learnt of the old man's illicit relationship with his daughter from one of her teachers who told him that the girl once left school, which was a stone throw to the old man's house, and when she was being looked for, other pupils said she had gone to the man's house. The teacher had sent some pupils to the house to fish out the girl and truly, they met the girl with the old man during school hours.Though the police went to the suspect's house to arrest him based on the information, he was discovered to be away, as his landlord informed them that the man travelled to his village in Anambra State. However, he was arrested immediately they got an information that he was back. After preliminary investigations at Iyana Offa Division, the case was transferred to State CID where he had been undergoing further investigations.Speaking with Nigerian Tribune at the State CID, the suspect said that he did not initially have the intention of having sex with the girl but sought her consent for the act when she was repeatedly coming to him for N50. He added that though he attempted to have sex with the girl, he did not penetrate because the girl's vulva was too tight for him. Giving information about his background, Pa Ilora said: 'I am from Awka in Anambra State but I have been in the South West region since 1953. I am married with seven children but my wife lives in our village back home. The last of my children is 14 years old while I am 67 years old. I am a blacksmith producing hoes, cutlass and guns for hunters who go hunting for animals. I also repair guns.'I know the girl in question because we had once lived together in the same house. She was just about eight or nine years old then. They later packed out of the house and moved to another building. What happened was that she came to me, saying that I should borrow her a cutlass to take to school. Later, she would come to me to ask me for money, like N50. She would tell me that her mother sent her to ask me for the money. I knew she was lying so I asked what she wanted to use the money for and she said she needed it to pay for coaching in school and also to buy snacks.'I was giving her but at a time I told her that if she would want me to continue to give her money, then she would have to agree to have sex with me and she agreed. The next time she came, I gave her N50 and demanded sex. She replied that she was ready. That was about two months ago. That was how we started having sex but I did not penetrate so that it would not pain her. This was because my manhood did not enter her vulva despite attempts so I just ejaculated at the entrance of her vulva one.'Later, when I saw that I was not enjoying the act because there was no penetration, I told her not to come again. Thereafter, I travelled to my hometown and it was on my return that I learnt that the police were looking for me because of a report that I tore the girl's vulva. I now wondered how this could be because I did not injure her, neither was there any blood since I did not penetrate. Also, it was not as if I forced her, she agreed to have sex with me. I am suspecting that she must have gone to another person because I left for my town on November 22 and returned on December 1. Anything could have happened while I was away'.When Nigerian Tribune posed a question to him on why he did not see the girl as his own child but decided to demand sex for money, Pa Ilora had no answer. Also when asked how he used to satisfy his sexual urge since his wife does not live with him, Pa Ilora replied that he used to travel home to meet his wife for sex, saying that he had no concubine and was not doing it with any other girl. The victim, while narrating her relationship with the old man told Nigerian Tribune, that she first approached the old man for cutlass, after which she started asking him for money. According to her, 'it all started about three months ago. I am in primary six. I used to go to Baba to ask him for money. Later, he demanded for sex and I said it was okay. He took me inside his room, removed my pant, removed his own pant. He asked me to open my legs and laid on me, putting his penis in my private part.'At first, he was unable to penetrate because it was paining me. Later, he penetrated and I saw a little blood. After we finished, I went to his backyard, washed off the blood and left for school. I also used to go there during break time in school and whenever we closed from school. He later told me not to come to his house again. Also, when class teacher got to know, she warned me never to go to his house again and I stopped going'.The girl's father, however, said that he was shocked to learn that his daughter's colleagues in school used to call her Iyawo Baba Agbede (the blacksmith's wife). He added that he could recollect that his nine-year-old son, who is her immediate younger brother, once told him that something was going on between the old man and Banke but he dismissed it. 'I have grown up daughters from my first marriage who are graduates and are married, they did not give me such a problem. I don't know why this one is wayward like this', he said. Nigerian Tribune gathered that the medical report on the girl indicated that her hymen had been broken, though she was not pregnant. When asked to react to the story, the police image maker in Oyo State, ASP Femi Okanlawon, said that the suspect had been charged to court for defilement. 'A case of defilement is proferred against anyone who has carnal knowledge of a female under 16 years of age, whether her consent was got or not', he added.Nigerian Tribune further gathered that the case had been charged to Magistrate Court 2, Iyaganku on December 8 on one-count charge of defilement while the magistrate, Mrs Oyediran, ordered that he be remanded in prison custody. The case has been adjourned to December 29.
