Boko Haram: Jonathan urged to recall experts

Published by Tribune on Thu, 29 Dec 2011

IN view of the latestsuspected BokoHaram bomb attack targeted at Christians on Christmas Day in Niger State, the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to, with immediate effect, recall the retired experts in the field of bomb detection to assist the active security agents to put an end to the inhuman act of the Boko Haram sect. The CBCN, in a release signed by its president, Archbishop Felix Ade Alaba Job, also called for a day of prayer, charging all the faithful in Nigeria to pray and fast on December 31, 2011, to end the evil act.Ade Alaba Job admonished them to seek God's intervention on the matter and for the restoration of peace in the country. The release called on peace loving Muslims, especially their leaders, not only to publicly denounce the activities of Boko Haram, but do everything possible to end the movement. The release further said, 'we are grateful for the step taken so far, for the care of the injured. We know that many have lost a lot and the greatest loss is the death of their relations. We hope the Federal Government will alleviate their sufferings.'First, we sympathise with the Bishop of Minna, the Most Reverend Martins Uzoukwu, the parish priest and parishioners and the relations of those who lost their lives in this painful and most regrettable terrorist event. With every ounce of our strength, we condemn this barbaric act targeted at innocent and peace loving Nigerians at their sacred place of worship.
