Alawe stool: 'No ruling house was excluded in selection

Published by Tribune on Thu, 29 Dec 2011

The Afuntade line age of Oniweruling house of Ilawe-Ekiti in Ekiti South West Local Government Area of Ekiti State, has denied that some lineages in the community were excluded from the selection process of the new Alawe of Ilawe, Oba Adebanji Ajibade Alabi.According to a statement signed by Mr. Bunmi Olugbade, on behalf of the the Afuntade lineage, and made available to Community News in Ado-Ekiti, the claim that some royal lineages were excluded in the selection of the new Alaawe was wrong. The statement was a reaction to an allegation by the Osunla of Oke-Emo in the community, Chief Olukayode Oluyede, that three out of the four lineages in the ruling family were excluded from the processes leading to the selection of Alabi as the new Alawe.Oluyede had also alleged that Akubieleyo, Adesubulu, Ogoimo and Ademileka/Afinbiokin lineages that make up the Oniwe ruling houses should have been represented in the selection of the new monarch, saying male children from these four lineages were entitled to contest the stool. But the Afuntade lineage in its reaction, said the Oniwe ruling house consisted of Afuntade, Afunbiokin lineages, Aladesanmi and Orinkoyo lineages, pointing out that 16 male children from the four ruling lineages showed interest in the stool.Olugbade added in the statement that all the names of the male children were submitted to the seven kingmakers in the town who, according to him, 'presented them to the Ifa Oracle for consultation in an open hall on December 6, 2011.'Olugbade added, 'for the first time in the history Obaship selection in Ilawe-Ekiti, all the seven kingmakers unanimously voted for Prince Adebanji Ajibade Alabi which decision was communicated to him and upon his acceptance he has been given a certificate of appointment by the Ekiti State government.'Olugbade maintained that there was no apprehension or tension in Ilawe over the plans to install Alabi as the new monarch, pointing out that the town was 'already in a jubilant mood and congratulatory messages had kept pouring in for the new monarch.'Olugbade also claimed that the chief who claimed to be the Osunla of Oke-Emo was a fake chief, adding that there was no chief like that in Ilawe for now.According to him, ' It is most unfortunate that one Olukayode Oluyede can claim to be an Osunla of Oke-Emo because the Osunla of Oke-Emi has been installed. Besides, Oke-Emo is a quarter in Ilawe, with Chief Gbenga Agbona as the current Elemo of Oke-Emo and he is one of the kingmakers in Ilawe.' He is the only authority qualified in Oke-Emo to speak for Oke-Emo about the selection of the new oba.
