Association urges passages of bill on traditional medicine

The National Assembly has beenurged to expedite action on the passage of a bill on traditional medicine practice in Nigeria.The national president of the National Association of Nigeria Traditional Medicine Practitioners (NANTMP), Chief T.O. Omon Oleabhiele, made the appeal during the opening ceremony of the first Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the NANTMP held in Agbor, Delta State, recentlyChief Oleabhiele disclosed that the appeal had become necessary as it would give legal backing to the practice of traditional medicine in Nigeria, adding that when the bill was passed, it would regulate the practice of traditional medicine in the country.According to him, the bill would also, alleviate poverty by reducing the rate of unemployment in the country, among others.He said, the bill which seeks to establish a National Commission for Traditional Medicine Practice, would place the responsibility of issues that have to do with traditional medicine practice on practitioners of traditional medicine when eventually passed into law by the National Assembly.Earlier in his welcome address, the Vice-President of the association, South-South, Chief Ayo Ben, who expressed confidence in the leadership ability of the national president of the association, stressed the need for peace and unity among traditional medicine practitioners in Nigeria in order to achieve set goals.Also speaking, the chairman of the host state, Chief Philip Onyekpe, called for a synergy between traditional and orthodox medicine practitioners, adding that traditional medicine in Nigeria has been refined to meet the medical needs of the people.THE Chairman, Oluyole Local Gov ernment Area of Oyo State, Prince Abass Ayodeji Aleshinloye, has charged the newly-inaugurated Resources Mobilisation Allocations and Fiscal Committee (REMAF) in the council to come up with possible ways the council can make more money to meet the
