Kwara gov's aide gives educational empowerment grant

A Special Adviserto GovernorAbdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State on Information Communication Technology (ICT), Alhaji Usman Hamzat, has distributed educational empowerment grant to 60 selected secondary school students in the state.Speaking at the presentation of N7,000 to each of the students for their West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE) fees, hosted by the wife of the governor, Mrs Omolewa Ahmed in Ilorin, Alhaji Hamzat said, four students from each ward of the total number of 11 wards in Ilorin South Local Government Area of the state were beneficiaries of the gesture.He disclosed that other beneficiaries of the educational aid were Ebiraland indigenes resident in Kwara State, adding that 22 widows in the area also received welfare packages.Alhaji Hamzat, who said the project was aimed at complementing the efforts of both the present administration in the state and that of the wife of the governor in improving education and human capital development, added that he also aimed to encourage educational attainment among youth in the state.He admonished the beneficiaries of the project to always remember that there was no short cut to success, saying that hardwork would always bring out the potentials in them.He also said that one of the ways to appreciate the gesture or make the best use of the opportunity given was to rededicate themselves to their studies to achieve academic excellence.Alhaji Hamzatan who also prayed for the widows for divine strength to see them through their situation, advised them to manage their condition in a dignifying manner and be source of good character for their children.Also speaking, the wife of the governor said he agreed to be part of the programme because humanitarian activities were her passion and that it had semblance with her programmes aimed at alleviating poverty in the society.She said that more than 200 people had been empowered to set up businesses, adding that widows, handicapped and other less privileged ones had been empowered to improve their socio-economic well being in relation to the policy of the state government.Mrs Ahmed, who charged the governor's aide not to relent in embarking on more of such projects, said givers never lack.
