Roni LG distributes 120 water pumps to farmers

RONI Local Government council inJigawa State has purchased and distributed 120 water pump generators to farmers in the council area free of charge to encourage irrigation farming in the area.This was disclosed by the council chairman, Alhaji Bako Muhammad while fielding questions from newsmen in Roni town, explaining that the gesture was also in line with his council's effort to supplement the state and Federal government efforts to achieve food security in Nigeria.Alhaji Bako Muhammed Amaryawa explained the council spent over N3.6 million on the items.The council chairman added that 'apart from the generators, the council also assisted the farmers with other irrigation facilities in addition to seedlings and fertilizer.'He further disclosed that over 15 towns and villages were electrified and connected to the national grid within the year as the communities in the past, lacked modern infrastructure that could affect the lives of the people in a positive way.According to him, 'we consider it as a matter of right to provide those people with the basic amenities that would transform their lives which, we hope, would also provide the enabling environment for job creation that would eventually reduce the mass movement of our people from the rural areas to the cities for greener pastures,' he claimed.
