GOVERNOR of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fasola, (and the Minister of Sports, BolajiAbdullahi, are expected to jointly unveil the Olympic Countdown Clockof the Nigeria Olympic Committee this weekend as part of the country's 60th Olympic year and preparation towards the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games.The unveiling of the Olympic Countdown Clock, which will be situated at the Muri Okunola Park in Victoria Island, Lagos, will also have in attendance the members of the Lagos State Cabinet, ex-Olympians, members of the sports family and captains of businesses in Nigeria,among others. The clock, which will now be counting down to the evening of July 27, 2012, in days, hours, minutes and seconds, is seen as a significant moment in the build-up to the Games. It will be a reminder to everyone that the countdown to London 2012 has begun and also herald Nigeria's preparation for the greatest sporting show on earth. According to Goke Dokun, the chief executive officer of IMPC Limited, the company that worked on this project, 'it aligns with Pierre de Coubertin's vision of developing as a whole person through sports, life and creating a lasting legacy.'This should be seen as a demonstration of those Olympic values and an ideal opportunity to develop a set of universal principles that could be applied to education and the society as a whole, as well as to sports. ' This is also a demonstration of the commitment and assiduous work the new Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), according to the Chairman of NOC Marketing Committee, Patrick Ukah, who also enjoined corporate organisations in Nigeria to partner the NOC for sporting and commercial achievements. NOC President, Sani Ndanusa, was happy that this event was coming at this time and stated the body's readiness to partner corporate organisations for development of sports and by extension promote the image of Nigeria.
