Institute repairs Army weapons, trains soldiers

DIRECTOR and Chief Executive Officer, National Metallurgical Training Institute (NMTI) Onitsha, Anambra State, Eugene Anyaeji, has disclosed that the institute had assisted the Nigerian Army in fixing its weaponry for the effective defence and security needs of the country.Anyaeji, who made the disclosure in an interview with The Guardian yesterday in Awka, also stated that the NMTI had trained a number of soldiers in various technical fields.He added thatthe institute had produced over 3,000 technical skilled manpower in various engineering fields, hinting that 644 of the graduands now work in the country's iron and steel companies.'The vision ofNMTI, Onitsha, is blending science and technology in the development of skilled technical and middle-level manpower; encouraging and promoting scholarships and conducting research in the field of metallurgy, as well as developing specialised professional engineering courses to metallurgical, oil and gas sectors', Anyaeji noted.
