Monarch asks youths to be peaceful

Published by Punch on Fri, 30 Dec 2011

A monarch, the Aladeshoyin of Odo-Noforija in Epe area of Lagos, Oba Babatunde Ogunlaja, has called on members of the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria to be peaceful with their neighbours in school and at home. The monarch, who was speaking during the inauguration of the 92nd Islamic Vacation Course of the MSSN, at the Human Capital Development Centre, Epe, commended the youth for the completion of their camping programme. He said, You have displayed how truly religious people should behave. Our town is blessed with your presence. I pray you will record success in your various chosen professions.Peace is key to the development of any nation. We are brothers; we must be peaceful with one another. I promise to continue to support your programmes because you have brought development into our land.Ogunlaja, however, urged the youth to always act in according to the precepts of the Quran, and promised to contribute more towards the building of the groups centre.President of the group, Qasim Badrudeen, appreciated the gesture of the monarch and assured him that the students would continue to uphold high moral values. He said, It is a thing of joy that we are here today, despite the fact that several attempts made in the past to hold a camp here did not materialise. The challenges we encountered in the course of securing befitting venues and the huge cost of the venues spurred us into taking this difficult but bold initiative.Badrudeen said the group hoped to have its permanent site fully constructed for the next camping programme. He noted that the theme of the camp programme, Time to Reflect, was borne out of the need to review the state of the country. It is sad to note that rather than the country moving forward 51 years after independence, things are not improving. We want to redirect the focus of youths to become agents of change, Badrudeen said.
