The much-awaited super fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will still happen next year, despite Mayweather serving a three-month prison sentence starting next week, according to the unbeaten American boxing stars estranged father.Lil Floyd doing time doesnt have to prevent the fight from happening. I dont think it will [because] everyone wants to see the fight, Floyd Mayweather Sr. told BoxingTalk.com.The elder Mayweather, who trained and developed Floyd Jr. into one of the best fighters of his era, said Pacquiao-Mayweather would still happen in 2012 but warned that it would be like throwing Pacquiao to the wolves.The famous boxing trainer said the odds would be stacked heavily against Pacquiao, who recently agreed to take a lower share of the purse just to get the trash-talking Mayweather, the World Boxing Council welterweight champ, to fight himPacquiao knows that Lil Floyd will whoop him. Lil Floyd is bigger than him, hes faster than him, hes slicker than him, hes stronger than him, and he has more knowledge than him, Mayweather Sr. stressed.Lil Floyd has all the advantages over Pacquiao. Pacquiao dont have a chance in hell to beat Lil Floyd.According to Mayweather, Pacquiaos promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank has no choice but to make the Pacquiao vs Mayweather because of the tremendous public demand for what could be the first $100 million fight in ring history.As far as this fight is concerned, I think Bob has no choice but to throw Pacquiao to the wolves. Pacquiao is going to have to be thrown into a wolf in a cage, and you know what chances you have against a wolf in a cage' None, he said in a one-on-one interview with John McCormick, the transcripts of which were posted Wednesday on the BoxingTalk.com website.The elder Mayweather, who served 13 years in prison on drug-related issues, said he is saddened to see his son go to a Clark County, Nevada jail starting January 6, but rationalized that everything that has happened may have happened for a reason.Floyd Jr., who is nicknamed Money, was sentenced by to 90 days in the slammer by Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Melissa Saragosa in exchange for pleading guilty to a reduced battery domestic violence charge and no contest to two counts of harassment.This means that Mayweather, who will turn 35 on Febuary 24, would be in jail until the first week of April if he were to serve his 90-day prison sentence.Detention officer Bill Cassell, however, said that good behavior and work time could knock up to 30 days off Mayweathers sentence.Before sentencing, Mayweather had announced that he has booked May 5 for his next fight, possibly against Pacquiao, at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.Boxing experts now doubt the viability of the Cinco de Mayo fight date because of Mayweathers lock-up problem.Arum said that as far as Pacquiao is concerned, the mega fight that could gross the Pinoy icon and Mayweather at least $50 million each is still a go.Realistically, the fight would have to be moved back to a later date, but the delay could be useful in making a fight of this magnitude, Arum said.Arum said he would meet with Pacquiao in January to discuss options for the boxers next fight, but he declined to discuss these possibilities.Pacquiao, the World Boxing Organization welterweight champion, fights at least twice a year, and he several potential opponents before the projected showdown with Mayweather later in 2011.
