Champions League Results 2015: Last-16 Scores and Quarter-Final Draw Date

Published by Bleacher Report on Thu, 19 Mar 2015

Barcelona and Juventus completed the lineup for the Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday, as they made it through their respective last-16 encounters with relative ease.Juventus took a 2-1 lead from their home leg to theWestfalenstadion, where theyfacedBorussia Dortmund. The Serie A champions ran out to an easy 3-0 win on the night with a terrific display of counter-attacking. Barcelona had beaten Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium in the first leg of their last-16 tie. They were 1-0 winners at the Camp Nou on Wednesday, easing through to the quarter-finals.Here are the full results from the last 16 of the Champions League, with all the winners now going into the pot for the quarter-final draw:The draw for the quarter-finals takes place at 11 a.m. GMT (7 a.m. ET) on Friday, March 20 in Nyon, Switzerland.Juve Soar, Barca Get the Job DoneIt could have been a nervy finish for Barcelona at the Camp Nou on Wednesday, but Sergio Aguero's 77th-minutespot-kickwhich would have left City needing just one more goal to force extra time had it gone inwas saved byMarc-Andre ter Stegen.Barca took a first-half lead on an Ivan Rakiticgoal in the 31st minute, the Croatian lobbing it over Joe Hart after wonderful work from Lionel Messi in the build-up.Messi was at his best as he ran the City defence ragged, Hart proving essential in keeping City in the game with a string of fine saves, per Spanish football writer Dermot Corrigan:The English shot-stopper was impressive, but the number of saves he was forced to make was indicative of just how dominant the Catalan giants were.City finally came into the game looking to chase the tie in the final stages, and Aguero was presented with a golden opportunity after he was hauled down by Javier Mascherano in the penalty area. But ter Stegen saved easily to his right and Barca saw out the victory, seeing themselves through to the last eight and sending the Premier League's last hope out of the competition, per ESPN's Paul Carr:In Dortmund,Juve put on a fine display, outclassing their hosts and winning 3-0 against Jurgen Klopp's side, who were barely ever in the game, despite dominating possession.Carlos Tevez opened up the scoring for the Italian champions in the third minute with a fine 30-yard drive from the left that soared into the top corner. From there, Juve allowed Dortmund the majority of possession, but the Bundesliga side simply could not break them down, failing to find a single genuine opening in the first 45 minutes. After the break, Dortmund were punished for their disorganised defence as Juve's midfield continued to find their two forwardsTevez and Alvaro Moratabehind the back line, and Roman Weidenfellerwas forced into a couple of early second-half saves. However, the resistance buckled in the 70th minute as Tevez set Morata up for a tap-in to make it 2-0. The Argentine added a third goal nine minutes later, after being played through behind Dortmund's defence again.Dortmund and City thus come to the end of their Champions League runs for another year, but Barca and Juve will be genuine contenders to go all the way with the last eight looming.Read more World Football news on BleacherReport.com
