C'River to establish elders' forum for devt

Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke has called for the formation of a formidable elders forum that will contribute meaningfully to the states economic advancement through their wealth of experience and expertise.Imoke, who made this proposal at an interactive session with a group of elders from the 18 local government areas of the state, reasoned that through that channel, the forum could suggest pathways to development.The group comprised former military administrators, former members of national and state assemblies, representatives of various political parties, business executives, former and present members of the federal and state executive councils, retired permanent secretaries and opinion leaders.Imoke noted that because of their relevance, the elders could meet once a year to enable government to tap from their wealth of experience, exposure, expertise and knowledge.He stated that the current medium term sector strategy adopted by the state in its development policies and economic planning was what the elders once called rolling plan in their time. He added that government sees the formation as a forum that could help it on various issues including finding solutions to the decadence in political class, among others.This has no value and it is destructive to the state and society as they tend to be destructive through abuses, falsehood by using social network and other media which are capable of creating some adverse effects on the people, he said.
