Kaita returns to Super Eagles 'Intruder invades Eagles training session 'Aiyegbeni motivates Home Eagles

Published by Tribune on Fri, 30 Dec 2011

BARING any unforseen circumstances, former Super Eagles bad boy, Sanni Kaita will soon return to the national team after over one and a half years in 'exile'.Stephen Keshi, Nigeria's national team coach, gave the hint that it was time Kaita returned to the Eagles as a new team evolves in the New Year after disappointing results in recent engagements.''Why not' Keshi replied when asked if Kaita has the chance of returning to the national team after his infamous tackle on Greece's Vasilis Torosidis during a second group match at South Africa 2010 World Cup.He was subsequently sent off and Nigeria eventually lost the match 2-1 sparking negative reactions in Nigeria. Kaita was issued death threats while former coach, Samson Siasia kept him out of the national team 'until he is forgiven by Nigerians.' Now Keshi feels events have overtaken the issue and wants the midfielder back.''We want everybody we need to get a strong team, if we find Kaita suitable we will call him. All our best hands must be gathered together to form a new team because I'm not going to discriminate in my choice of players.Kaita is noted as an outstanding defensive midfielder, especially at the 2005 World Youth Championship and Beijing 2008 Olympics where Nigerian teams clinched silver medals. So far, he has two continental honours at full international levels under his belt as bronze medallists at 2006 and 2010 Africa Nations Cup in Egypt and Ghana respectively.Meanwhile,THE morning training session of home based Super Eagles yesterday at the training pitch of the Abuja National Stadium, saw the presence of another 'unknown player' from the blues, pleading to be allowed to train with the national team. Before yesterday another stranger, who said he came all the way from Uyo in Akwa Ibom had invaded Eagles session.Yesterday, the intruder said he came from Maraba in the Federal capital and also claimed he is a former player of Kwara United of Ilorin, flaunting a fake ID card of the club and claimed a certain Coach Gbenga, asked him to come and meet Eagles boss, Stephen Keshi, for training and inclusion into the national team.Team Security head, ACP Gideon Akinsola, Psychologist Dr Robinson Okosun and Secretary, Dayo Enebi then set out to drill the 'player', who sounded more like a lunatic. He even came with a travelling bag loaded with all manner of things except training kits.Meanwhile,SUPER Eagles forward, Yakubu Aiyegbeni has challenged home based players currently in camp in Abuja not to show any complex as they seek to break into the national team.Speaking to team psychologist, Robinson Okosun from his England base on Wednesday night, Aiyegbeni, said almost all the super stars of the national team of today started their trade in the local league and were also called to camp before their international break-through.'The players must be determined and focused, because I know that if they impress Coach Stephen Keshi, he would surely feature them without any bias, because he's a coach I know very well.He praised the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, and the coaching crew for initiating the idea of bringing up the local stars, saying it would bring competition to the fight for shirts in the national camp, which will positively impact the fortunes of the team.On whether he deserves a recall to the national team, Yak, said it was up to the technical crew, adding that they know the current form of all top Nigerian players and that should form the basis of their invitation to the national team.
