Traditional ruler charges wealthy Nigerians on communal development

The Oluyin of Iyinin Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Oba Ademola Ajakaye, has charged well-to-do Nigerians to contribute to the growth of their communities as well as human capital development in their domains.Oba Ajakaye, who is a retired High Court judge, observed that this was necessary as part of efforts to bring development closer to the people rather than relying solely on government efforts.Oba Ajakaye, who stated this at a ceremony where an aide of Governor Kayode Fayemi, Mr Deji Adesokan, was honoured by people of the community, explained that 'Nigerians' fortunes would continue to nosedive unless meaningful contributions were made from individuals and groups that could transform the nation.'The monarch lauded the contributions of Adesokan, who is Governor Fayemi's Senior Special Assistant on Internal Security, to human capital development in the community, and called on other well-meaning individuals to emulate the virtues.According to him, scholarship awards to some of the secondary school students in the community by a group in the town, Millennium Kings Club and award conferment on some individuals that had contributed to the development of the town could spur others to give their best to the development of the community.He said: 'For a Club to deem it fit to give scholarship to secondary schools speaks volume. This is what the local governments have been doing under the bursary award. And I want to believe that if other individuals and groups could be doing this, it will go a long way in complementing governments' efforts.'Oba Ajakaye urged the benefitting students to make good use of the opportunity and focus their attention on laying good foundation for themselves, saying with such foundation, they would one day give back to the society in future.
