Adedoja extols Ekejis virtue Says no vacancy for DG lobbyists

Published by Tribune on Wed, 30 Mar 2011

MINISTER of Sports and Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Professor Taoheed Adedoja has warned lobbyists swarming his office on a daily basis that the position of the Director General of  NSC  is not vacant.Adedoja debunked speculation that the incumbent DG, Chief Patrick Ekeji would leave after clocking the age of 60.I was overwhelmed with the number of lobbyists and phone calls I receive everyday from people who want to become the DG, Adedoja disclosed.Yes, Ekeji was 60 recently but they have forgotten that the man is serving his first term as a political appointee. He has five years first term and renewable for another five years. He resigned as a civil servant years ago to take up the appointment. So what I am saying is that there is no vacancy in NSC. I am happy working with the DG and he is doing a great job. He has the respect of all the staff under him and this is what we need to move sports to the next level. He is a professional and hes driving other professionals in the NSC on the right path holding the steering firmly.Ekeji has the energy to move sports on high and we will jointly drive it to an enviable position that all Nigerians will be proud of.The Sports Minister who was speaking at a special birthday party organised for the DG by his staff said that Nigerian athletes would continue to reap from their hard work as the government will continue to appreciate them.We are ready to drive our athletes to greater heights  by winning laurels for Nigeria and they can be sure that the government will show appreciation. As professionals, we want to assure them that they have a place in the NSC whenever they retire from active participation in sports.
