NTDC committed to sports tourism -Runsewe

As part of efforts to promote tourism development at all levels, the NigerianTourism Development Corporation (NTDC) has again demonstrated its commitment at promoting sports tourism in Nigeria.This position was exemplified by the Director-General, NTDC, Chief Olusegun Runsewe, who in a bid to promote the game of squash in Nigeria, led a large delegation of staff from the corporation to the grand finale of the Senator David Mark under-20 National Open Squash Championships tagged Senate Presidents Cup.The event, which was sponsored by the Federal Capital Territory administration, featured final matches for female under-18 category, male under-20 category, exhibition matches, investiture of patrons and presentation of trophies inter alia.In his short remarks on the occassion, the Minister of Sports, Professor Taoheed Adedoja, decried the practice of age falsification by some sports men and women, stating that it would no longer be tolerated.Complementing the position of the sports Minister, the Senate President, Senator David Mark advised Sports practitioners across the country to eschew cheating with ages, while encouraging the use of correct age at age-grade competitions, asserting that it was the only way of actualising the true potential of sports men and women in the country.As a mark of appreciation for Otunba Runsewes efforts in the development of sports tourism in Nigeria, the NTDC helmsman was presented with the Friend of Squash award by the Senate President while assuring that the event would subsequently be held annually.The grand finale which held at the National Stadium, Abuja, had in attendance, Senate President, David Mark, Minister of Sports, Professor Taoheed Adedoja, Director General, National Sports Commission, Sir Patrick Ekeji, Director of Sports FCTA, Alhaji Muhammed Alim Musa and President Nigeria Squash Federation, Rotarian Femi Ajagbe.
