Anxiety as INEC substitutes dep gov candidates name in Bauchi

Published by Tribune on Wed, 30 Mar 2011

Fear has now gripped the camp of Sagir Aminu Saleh, the running mate of the PDP gubernatorial candidate in Bauchi State, Isa Yuguda, as Salehs name did not appear on the final lists of candidates released by the state office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).Checks at INECs office revealed the name of one Abdullahi Ibrahim appeared on the list as the deputy gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming general election in the state instead of Saleh who has been going round with the gubernatorial candidate, for the state wide campaigns and rallies while the state secretariat of the party is said to have made a formal complaint to INEC over the issue.Speaking to newsmen about the development on Monday, the state publicity secretary of PDP, Sani Alamin Mohammed, said, PDP has complained to INEC and we attached all the papers of Sagir Aminu Saleh, but to our surprise up till now, they have not corrected the mistake. We are, therefore, appealing to INEC to correct the mistake and list Sagir Aminu Saleh as the deputy gubernatorial candidate instead of Abdullahi Ibrahim. When contacted over the matter, the Special Adviser to Governor Yuguda on Politics and Mobilisation, Abdulmumini Mohammed Kundak said, Governor Isa Yuguda did not change Sagir Aminu Saleh as his  gubernatorial running mate.As far as we are concerned. Saleh is our deputy gubernatorial candidate. We dont know where the mistake came from but as far as we are concerned, we submitted the name of Sagir Aminu Saleh to INEC. He is our deputy gubernatorial candidate. The public affairs officer of INEC, Bauchi State office, Yahaya Salihu Mohammed, when approached for comments, advised our reporter to be patient and wait for the Special Adviser on Legal Matters to the Resident Electoral Commission, who was not on seat up till the time of filing this story.
