Ifedapo, Alajameta residents want PHCN investigated over transformer

Published by Tribune on Wed, 30 Mar 2011

SOME of the residents of Ifedapo, off Alajameta bus stop, Idi-Obi axis of Egbeda Local Government Area of Oyo State, during the week, expressed surprise over what they termed the laxity often exhibited by the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) officials each time duty calls. One of the residents, who simply identified himself as Adebowale John, said he got attracted to the area when he found out that power supply to the area was relatively better. He said, the situation over the last eight weeks has, however, proved the heartlessness of the PHCN officers, saying that they are  saboteurs dragging back the hands of the clock of the Federal Government.Mr Adebowale, who said he had spent close to a year in the area, explained that what dragged the people of Ifedapo into darkness according to his findings, was mere relocation of the areas transformer from its original place to give room for the land owners plan to establish a petrol station on his land.He said as soon as the transformer was shifted, the voltage to the area dropped drastically for a period of time before it finally went off. The area, in the last four weeks, had since remained in darkness without any information as to the reason for the situation. We are calling on the leadership of the PHCN and Egbeda Local Government Council to step into the matter as we learnt that the transformer is now being gradually vandalised. They should find out why it was not installed immediately in the new location, he said.Another resident, a trader, Mrs Idowu Osondu, said  if  nothing was done in the next couple of weeks, business in the area would be paralysed.
