PDP faults Aregbesola over state pardon, N38bn saving

Published by Punch on Sat, 31 Dec 2011

The Peoples Democratic Party has faulted the state pardon granted by Governor Rauf Aregbesola to two persons, Olaolu Adegbaju and Ekundayo Odubade, convicted for the death of House of Assembly member, Mr. Odunayo Olagbaju, on December 18, 2001.In a news conference attended by elders and leaders of the party in Osogbo, on Friday, the opposition party faulted the saving of N38bn by the Aregbesola administration.Chairman, Osun PDP Transition and Congress Committee, Chief Adejare Bello, who is a lawyer, said it was wrong for the state government to pardon convicts, whose case was on appeal.Bello, the immediate past Speaker of the Osun assembly, said it was wrong for the state government to pardon another murder convict, Ahmed Owonikoko, who was found culpable in the death of one Tunde Ojewale in Oba-Ile.Olagbaju, popularly referred to as Misty, was murdered in the wake of the political turbulence that engulfed Osun in 2001 during the administration of Chief Bisi Akande. But the ACN Director of Publicity and Strategy in the state, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, said it was shocking that a party that plunged Osun into an N18.3bn indebtedness could raise its voice against the Aregbesola-led administration for saving N38bn.
