Cleric lauds Senate for passing anti-gay law

Published by Punch on Sat, 31 Dec 2011

Founder, International Church Growth Ministries, Dr. Francis Akin-John, has lauded the Senate for the recent passage of the bill prohibiting same sex marriage, describing it as the best thing that has come out of Nigerias legislative chambers.Akin-John told SATURDAY PUNCH in an interview that Nigeria should throw its full support behind the lawmakers by calling the bluff of the Western nations that threatened to starve Nigeria of aids on account of the bill.He said, To me, that is the first right thing the Senate would do for many years. Of course, we cant say there is no gay lifestyle in Nigeria but officially legislating against same sex marriage shows that we hold our values very dear.I would rather praise the Senate for the good work because the gay culture is not a value we cherish in African. Nigeria should take its stand against that animalistic behaviour.Even two male animals dont mate, how much more human beings. So, if they are doing it in the UK, in America and in Europe, that is their take there and they have their problems with it. With the legislation, it shows that we hold our values dear.Akin-John said the act was not scriptural and wondered why the Western world suddenly demanded that we had a rethink, citing the rights of gays and lesbians. He said Nigeria should resist any pressure from any quarters in order to escape the wrath of God.He said, Now, they are talking of rights. I think we are taking it too far and if we take rights too far, we will destroy the whole world. To me, whoever wants to practise homosexuality is aware that there is legislation against it officially. We are not denying them their rights because they do it in their bedrooms. But when you want to do it in the open, that is what is wrong. In every society, there should be rules; there should be morality. You can see that African churches fought the idea of having gay priests on the pulpit. When a pastor is gay, it is left to the imagination what will happen to his congregation. The author of several books traced the history of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome to San Francisco, USA, where gay practice allegedly started. He debunked the notion that AIDS is an African disease, describing it as a distortion of history.
