Fashola Approves New Associations' Boards

TO kick-start the build up to the 18th National Sports Festival, Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has approved the constitution of boards of the state's 36 new sports associations.Making this known yesterday, the state's Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Development, Wahid Enitan Oshodi, said the new bodies would oversea the sports associations with the aim of discovering and nurturing the talents that abound in the stateAccording to Oshodi, the reconstitution of the boards followed the resolve of the government to kick start preparation for the hosting of the 18th National Sports Festival in earnest, adding that the associations were expected to organize regular competitions for budding athletes, beginning in January 2012.'The new associations' boards are not going for a jamboree; they are expected to get straight into the work and we will be looking strictly, assessing their performance every six months and if we feel that we can still find better people to serve, we will definitely be changing members of the associations as we go along,' he said.Oshodi added, 'Members of each sports association will be held accountable for their performances, as accountability will be the watchword from now on.'He disclosed that some former members have been reappointed into associations following their past contributions, while enjoining them to do more to justify their re-appointment.
