Chief Olabode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), spoke to OBIRE ONAKEMU on several national issues. How do you react to the growing insecurity in the country'AS a former security man, every Nigerian feels concern about the state of these bombings. As people of the different cultures, norms and values, we also have had different opinions, which is all about political agitations. The best way is that if you want to change the policy of government, starts off through political organisation, convincing the people and letting them believe in your course. The issue of violence is what bothers me. It is normally and legitimate if you want to agitate or clamour, as long as you don't tie it up with bombs and start killing those who don't even know a thing about what you want to talk about.I appeal to our brothers agitating to let it become a political or religious movement, rather than this violent operation. Violence; should be removed from it. Violence begets violence; it never stops. So, I appeal to them to give peace a chance in this country, as the man at the helm of affairs means well. Four years in the life of a country are for building blocks. He would do his own and leave the stage for another person to continue from where he stopped. So, you would always have ups and the downs in governance, but the beauty of it is that you can have the freedom to express yourself.I believe that part of the solution is to create an avenue for people to vent their anger and say what they want to say, rather than take out pent-up anger on other Nigerians.Let us democratise our anger, rather than make it bullet-ridden or bomb-buyers' activities.Do you have any fears over Nigeria's unity and corporate existence as a result of the spread of The Boko Haram menace'Actually, I believe in the sanctity of this nation; in the oneness of this country, especially having served it meritoriously.I have seen through the length and breadth of this nation and the beauty if its uniqueness. The British might have put us together for their own economic needs, but nothing happens by accident, if the Almighty God didn't want it to happen. Whether you are from the minority of the minorities, you are a Nigerian; you have equal rights with those ones who are in the majority.I am a committed Nigerian and I pray that this oneness, justice and fairness would reign in the land. All those who are still pushing us and lying would wash away; they can't be permanent. They would be like a flash in the pan and would fade away like an old grass in the desert. But the mien of the President is being construed by many as a sign of weakness'I think they must be dreaming. For many years back, I also belonged to the military, as a professional soldier. I think we have got used to the criteria of with immediate effects.Democracy is still the best form of governance, but it rolls very slowly; it grinds very slowly and if we are patients enough with it, with all hands on deck, we would get there. The Almighty God ordained him to be there and who says any Nigerian cannot get to the highest office' So, let us give him a chance.I remember it was our own Chief Obafemi Awolowo who envisaged the dreams of Nigeria, that somebody, an Ijaw man, would become President. And I want to add this little anecdote that that particular day becomes the day Nigeria attained nationhood. It should equally be noted that the success or failure of a leader would be on the pages of history. He is still remolding and building, because nationhood is blocks building, and he is doing his bits.I have a very strong belief that with God on his sides and with all Nigerians' support, we would get there. This is the most difficult period in the whole world. We should thank God that we are surviving as a nation. What are your thoughts on President Goodluck Jonathan'President Goodluck Jonathan was destined. If the Almighty God does not sanction him, he would never be there. He has started a journey, because democracy is a journey. He decided that his own team or scheme put in place for him would be reformed in various sectors.
