BRIEFSA BUILDING at Popoopla Street, Mafulokwu, Oshodi, collapsed at about 1.15pm yesterday killing one person and trapping an unidentified number of workers. The wounded were rushed to the Lagos Trauma Centre, Ikeja. At the scene The Guardian witnessed the rescue of two victims. Those trapped under the rubble were said to be carpenters, briclayers and a food vendor with her child.Group Tasks Govt On SecurityTHE Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC) has condemned the bombing of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Niger State. The group urged the federal government to nip activities of the Boko Haram Islamic sect in the bud, warning that Christians would defend themselves from extermination by the sect, if government fails in its responsibility to protect them. Speaking, Chairman of OAIC and President of Christian Welfare Initiative (CWI), Archbishop Magnus Atilade, lamented that government is not on top of the situation.'If those Senators and highly placed men, who are sponsors of these killings, are arrested and prosecuted by government, the situation would be curtailed,' he said.'Chijioke IremekaParents/Teachers Association Donates ICT Centre To SchoolTHE Parents/Teachers Association (PTA) of Yaba College of Technology Staff School, Yaba, has donated an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre to the institution. The centre, which is named in honour of pioneer principal, Mrs. Anuoluwapo Olujoke Adio-Moses, would support learning, professional development, administration, information management and communication. At the yearly get-together of the association, PTA Chairman, Mr. Ubochi Amakoh, stressed the significance of ICT in early childhood education, saying it cannot be over emphasised.'The world has become digital, and we, as parents, took the initiative to build an ICT centre so that children can be adequately equipped. And when they leave the school, they would fit in properly anywhere they find themselves in the world,' he said.Describing facilities at the centre, Amakoh said: 'We have also developed a community portal that is active and interactive. The portal has some learning facilities that would enhance teacher-student relationship and interaction academically, culturally and socially.'He urged parents to prioritise the academic welfare of their children, wondering why some leave the education of their children to only teachers.Principal of the school, Mrs. Ijeoma Ugorji, thanked the PTA for the gesture, and for its handling of staff welfare. The event featured presentation of gifts to Adio-Moses for her contributions towards the school.
