Published by Guardian on Sun, 01 Jan 2012

THE Vice-Chairman of Oyo State Pilgrims' Welfare Board (Muslim Wing), Alhaji Abass Oloko, has been sacked with immediate effect. The sack was announced in a letter dated December 30, 2011 and addressed to Oloko by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Akin Olajide.Oloko according to media report had engaged the Chairman of the board, Alhaji Taofeek Akewugberu, in a bloody fight on Thursday during which Akewugberu was beaten to pulp.According to a press release by media aide to the governor, Festus Adedayo,Akewugberu and Oloko were said to have been at each other's throats since their appointment into the board by the state government; a situation that reared its ugly head before their departure for the last hajj and in the holy land.Oloko, who was said to have complained that he was not officially informed about the peace meeting summoned by the chairman, stormed the Olodo, Ibadan secretariat of the board with people suspected to be thugs and asked them to seal off the offices to prevent the meeting from holding. The two-paragraph letter entitled 'Termination of Appointment' reads: 'As a result of recent development, the State Government has decided to relieve you of your appointment as a member and Vice-Chairman of the State Pilgrims' Board (Muslim Wing), with immediate effect.'On behalf of the State Government, I thank you for your past services to the board and hope that you will be willing and ready to offer your service in any other capacity the government may desire in future.
