Jonathan unhappy with Nigerian Sports

Published by Tribune on Mon, 02 Jan 2012

ACTING Minister of Sports and Chairman, National Sports Commission (NSC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has conveyed the disappointment of President Goodluck Jonathan over the poor performance of Nigeria in sporting engagements last year. The minister, represented by the Director, Federations and Elite Athletes Development (FEAD) in NSC, Bolaji Ojo-Oba, at the congress of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), which took place in Kaduna, said the state of the country's sports last year was a serious concern for the President because he was always concerned about the progress of Nigerian teams playing at home or abroad."It is a fact that the government of President Goodluck Jonathan has taken sports seriously. In fact, Jonathan personally monitors our teams' performances at home and abroad.''But the past few months' performances have been worrisome,' he said.Abdullahi further enjoined NFF and NSC to urgently restrategise to ensure that football reclaims its glorious days and ensure that the country comes out better from recent poor results.''It is said that to become a man is not by never falling, but by rising each time he falls. Nigeria's football is down currently and this assembly must provide the necessary re-engineering.''If we must be honest with ourselves, it has not been a particularly good year for Nigerian football. But this re-engineering is what will take it through the furnace, from which it will ultimately come out better,'' he said.
