KIA operatives clear hawkers off Ipodo road

Published by Tribune on Mon, 02 Jan 2012

It was commendation galore for men and officers of the Lagos State Kick Against Indiscipline (KIA) on Tuesday when they stormed Ipodo area to clear the traders hawking on the road.Community News learnt that the traders in Ipodo have been constituting serious threat to free flow of traffic in the area and appeals made to them by residents to leave the road to allow for free flow of traffic had not yielded any result. However, respite came the way of okada riders and motorists using Ipodo road when men of the state KIA stormed the area and cleared the road.Ipodo road, links Ikeja with Toyin Street on Allen Avenue. And because of its importance, the road is always jam packed with motorists, trying to link Allen Avenue without passing through the popular Awolowo Way in Ikeja. But despite the narrow nature of the road, traders often display their wares on the street, thus obstructing free flow of traffic.A motorist, Mr Bayo Ayinla, who spoke with Community News, commended the men of KIA for their efforts in restoring peace in the area. 'I'm very happy that we are getting respite in this area. These traders behave as if they pay for the road. I would only appeal to men of KIA to ensure that they come to the place on daily basis to ensure free flow of traffic.
