Traditional ruler urges religious leaders to preach unity, peace

Published by Tribune on Mon, 02 Jan 2012

The Andoma of Doma in Nasarawa State, Alhaji Ahmadu Ogah-Onawo, has called on religious leaders in the country to use religion as a tool for national development. He also said that religion should be used for peaceful co-existence among the divergent groups in the country.Ogah-Onawo also urged leaders of the two major religions in the country to use religion to foster unity and peace among Nigerians irrespective of any religious, political or ethnic differences. He said that the two major religions of the world, Islam and Christianity, preached peace, which he said people should continue to maintain.``Both Islam and Christianity abhor violence, as such, their adherents should put into practice what they teach,' the traditional ruler said. The monarch also urged the Boko Haram leadership or any group responsible for the killing of innocent Nigerians to embrace dialogue in place of their hard stance.According to him, the issue of security in Nigeria is the responsibility of all including the Boko Haram members. The royal father said that since the Federal Government had extended its olive branch to the Boko Haram for dialogue, a panacea for peace in the country, the group should accept the offer. The monarch said that violence could not solve any problem, no matter the level of disagreement, but that dialogue had always been a reliable means of resolving contentious issues.``It is only through dialogue that they can table their grievances for the government to understand them better and find the means of responding to their demands,'' the Andoma said.
