Nigerian leaders should rally round President Jonathan

Published by Nigerian Compass on Mon, 02 Jan 2012

Activities of the Islamic fundamentalists, Boko Haram and other anti-social groups responsible for bombings, kidnapping, violent armed robberies and inter-ethnic strifes, etc, pose a threat to the peace, security and peaceful co-existence of this nation. The bombing of a Catholic Church in Madalla on December 25, 2011 by Boko Haram adherent, which led to devastating consequences for lives and properties showed the precarious situation in the country security-wise.The fact that these anti-social groups caught the Nigerian security agencies napping each time they carried out their nefarious activities shows the Nigerian State and its security apparatus are incapable of nipping the challenges posed by these anti-social groups in the bud. Although, this may not go down well with our leaders, but this is the reality. President Goodluck Jonathan and heads of the security apparatus have reiterated on many occasions that they were on top of the situation. But within a twinkle of an eye, havoc has been wreaked by the anti-social groups. Although, the terrorist activities are limited to the North, if care is not taken, with time, such activities may engulf the whole nation. The consequence at that time would be devastating for the people and the image of this nation. Equally, foreign investors that government seeks to revive the comatose economy would not be forthcoming. Also, the nation may soon be added to the axis of evil and it will become a pariah in the community of nations.Lack of security and the impending fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government, consequences of which no one can predict, make the future of this nation unpredictable. Therefore, it is crystal clear the Nigerian State is incapable of maintaining peace and order in this country. All men of goodwill, former Heads of State, Presidents, Heads of security apparatus, traditional rulers and other statesmen should rally round President Jonathan's administration to save this nation from its predicament.Adewuyi AdegbiteApake, Ogbomoso,
