IPMAN, NUPENG condemn subsidy removal

The IndependentPetroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has condemned the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government and urged it to reverse the decision.The National President of IPMAN, Alhaji Abdulkadri Aminu, told newsmen in Lagos that the decision was totally wrong and shocking.He argued that if the government had good intention to deregulate the sector, it should have deregulated kerosene as well. He said the only way to sanitise the oil and gas industry was to involve all stakeholders in the process.'We didn't expect sudden removal of subsidy, but gradual,' he argued.He, however, warned on the multiplication effects it would have on the economy considering the present level of inflation and increasing government spending.However, South-West chairman, National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Mr Tokunbo Korodo, argued that the government had failed Nigerians on sudden removal of subsidy.
