Kano residents urged to use face masks during harmattan

A trado-medicalpractitioner,Malam Muham-mad Alkhamis, has advised Kano residents to use face masks during the harmattan to protect themselves from allergic reactions.Alkhamis, who made the suggestion in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, in Kano, said most people had allergies, but were not aware.``It only takes some effects of something around to trigger the reaction in human beings, and this is due to mass production of some elements in the body,' he explained.Alkhamis said that allergic reactions were triggered by harmattan due to the dusty that were inhaled by people.He said that even young children usually reacted to such weather, and advised that people should protect their children from the harshness of the harmattan.Alkhamis, however, advised that asthmatic patients should avoid contact with the harsh and dusty wind of the harmattan.NAN reports that due to the harmattan in Kano, residents have been suffering from allergies, a situation that had created long queues in the hospitals.
