RESIDENTS ofOlusoji-Elebu, asuburb community close to Oluyole Estate, sharing boundary with both Ido and Ibadan South-West Local Government areas of Oyo State, have described the authorities of the two local governments as insensitive to their plight, saying the attitudes of the two caretaker chairmen to their plight was unfortunate.The residents of the community also said the authorities of the two councils had been deceiving them and playing on their collective intelligence, keeping their hopes alive for the past seven months, giving them empty promises of coming to repair a damaged bridge linking Olusoji ' Elebu with other communities like Oluyole Estate, Apata and Odo-Ona Elewe.Many residents of the area who spoke with Community News, last week, during a visit to the community to verify their claims of total neglect by the state government, explained that they have realised what it meant be used and abandoned.A resident, Mr Juwon Fashogbon, said, 'it is very disheartening that both caretaker chairmen of Ido and Ibadan South-West local governments can treat our problems with kid gloves,' adding that the two chairmen had been treating them like an 'abandoned project.'He said that the damaged Olusoji ' Elebu bridge, which they promised they would repair during the last campaign, has indeed become an abandoned project which has also become a major headache for the people of the area.'For Mrs Abosede Ogunfowokan, a house owner in the area, she blamed the authorities of the Ibadan South-West Local Government Area for deliberately neglecting the community by not rehabilitating of Olusoji ' Elebu bridge and other physical development.According to her, 'the caretaker chairman of the council, Mr Taoheed Bolaji Adeleke, had come to this community more than three times, giving us empty promises to repair the damaged bridge, 'for God sake.'But they knew and appreciated our relevance and importance before the last April general election, but now, we are nothing to them,' she lamented.For another house owner in the area, Alhaja Kudirat Lawani, she blamed the authorities of Ido Local Government Area for not responding to their plight on time as far as the repair of Olusoji ' Elebu bridge was concerned, adding that the caretaker chairman, Professor Joseph Adeniyi Olowofela, ought to know the enormosity of the pains the residents were experiencing as a result of the damaged bridge.For Mr Samson Olubola, he accused the caretaker chairman of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area, Mr Adeleke of not keeping to his three-month promise that the state government would repair the bridge, stressing that 'if a government promised his people and failed, then the simple interpretation of such an action is that the government had succeeded in creating a sense of trust deficit in the minds of the people,' he posited.
