Don advocates communal efforts for community development

Published by Tribune on Tue, 03 Jan 2012

Alecturer at theEmmanuelAlayande College of Education, Oyo, Oyo State, Dr Tajudeen Ashiru, has advocated communal efforts as panacea for community development.Delivering a lecture at the maiden edition of All Ekunle Community Annual Summit held at Iseyin, Oyo State, Dr. Ashiru said that the development of any community was anchored on the readiness of the dwellers to sacrifice time, money and other human and material resources towards that goal.According to him, these factors were necessary for a community that yearns for development.Ashiru who is senior lecturer at the institution, enjoined all Ekunle indigenes in Iseyin to see community development as joint effort not necessarily to be left to the government alone. He also advocated prioritising of needs, frequent meetings and sensitisations as important tools in bringing a community to a new height."No two areas in a town needs the same thing at a time to develop. Each must prioritise to know what really is needed at a particular time for the particular community, not just to copy what another community has done," he advised.Present at the event were the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Abdul-Ganiy Salaudeen Adekunle Oloogunebi, Ajinese 1, Chief Waheed Adedokun Tunde (LAKABA), who was the chairman on the occasion, Pastor Yekeen Alayande (Oluwalogbon), retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, Dr. (Mrs) Ladigbolu, among others.
