Jigawa council helps widows, orphans

CHAIRMAN of Kazaure Local Council of Jigawa State, Yahaya Saleh Taki, has assisted 79 households through its monetary assistance scheme for bereaved families to cushion the hardship the loss of their breadwinners imposed on them.Taki pledged to sponsor a bill in the House of Assembly to sensitise caregivers to focus on the plight of widows and orphans.He said the society had lost the commitment with which family members usually rally round bereaved families by taking care of their children.The council chief said 'women in this part of the society are immediately faced with the dilemma of what to feed their children with and sending them to school. That is why in some cases, many end up hawking on the streets.'We cannot fold our arms and see our mothers suffer neglect by the society simply because they have lost their bread winners, we have stepped in through a committee that was inaugurated under the Wamban Kazaure, Alhaji Sunusi Tafida, to investigate and submit to the council all bereaved families for them to benefit from the scheme'.He said although the N4,000 stipend may seem small, he assured that the token would make impact on their lives.
