Army should complement police's effort on security - Amosun

OGUN State government hasurged the military to complement the efforts of The Nigeri Police to stem the rising tide of crimes in Nigeria.The state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, stated this in Abeokuta when the outgoing Brigade Commander, 32 Field Artillery Brigade, Alamala Barracks, Brigadier-General M. A. Alkali, paid him a farewell visit.Senator Amosun charged both the officers and men of the Nigerian Army and police 'to rise up to the security challenges in the country by ensuring that lives and properties of the citizens are protected.'He said he was confident that the security apparatus put in place by the state government, in conjunction with the security agencies, would reduce crime rate to the barest minimum.While describing the outgoing brigade commander as a complete officer, professional and gentleman, who had represented the army diligently in the interest of the country, Senator Amosun said he contributed immensely towards the success of the last general elections in the area of security.The current administration, he said, would continue to appreciate hard work. He assured the officers and men of the 32 Artillery Brigade of government's support towards ensuring adequate security in the state.Speaking earlier, the outgoing brigade commander said he came to inform the governor of his new posting to 34 Field Artillery Brigade, Owerri, Imo State.Brigadier-General Alkali thanked the state government for the assistance and support he received while in Abeokuta and enjoined the governor to extend similar support to his successor, Brigadier-General J. O. Osuji.He described his successor as a professional, educated and hardworking officer, who would be ready to support and give maximum cooperation to the government in combating crime in the state.The incoming brigade commander pledged to continue from where his predecessor stopped and give maximum support to the government.
