The Chairman,Osun State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Isiaka Olayiwola Afolabi, has urged the Federal Government to introduce palliative measures to ameliorate the suffering of the masses caused by the removal of fuel subsidy.Afolabi made this known on Tuesday, while reacting to the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government. Afolabi stressed that, "The removal of the fuel subsidy would not have direct effect on our union because what we buy is what we are going to sell, but, the masses should be taken care of by the Federal Government by applying some relief measures to cushion the effect of the removal".The state NURTW boss said "As one of the stakeholders in this Country, the Federal Government should have carried us along before announcing the removal of fuel subsidy, in order to have a unanimous agreement on the subject matter at hand.'Afolabi enjoined his members across the state not to inflate transport fares due to the removal of fuel subsidy, because this will be a total injustice to commuters at large. In the same vein, the Secretary of the union, Comrade Ismaila Osundiya, urged the power that be, to put all machinery in place so as to curb any unnecessary hardship that might be on the masses as a result of the revmoval of fuel subsidy. The Osun NURTW thereby advised the commuters not to blame its members for the sudden change in transport fares due to the removal."The increase of fuel price will cut across all sectors of the economy of which spare parts and other accessories are involved.
