Bashiri community agog as Catholic Bishop confirms 33, inaugurates water project

Bashiri community in Ado Ekiti Local Government Area of Ekiti State was in celebration mood last Friday as the Catholic community of Holy Family Catholic Church, celebrated 2011 Holy Family Day.At the celebration, which was under the leadership of the Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Most Reverend Felix Ajakaye, and assisted by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Raphael Borisade, 33 members of the Holy Family Catholic community also received the sacrament of Confirmation.The parish community members also witnessed the reception of first Holy Communion for the first time by 13 of its members.The Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Most Reverend Felix Ajakaye, who performed the ceremonies during a Mass at the Holy Family Catholic Church, Bashiri, also inaugurated a water project for the parish community as well as residents of the area as part of the contributions of the Church to community development.In his homily, Bishop Ajakaye charged parents to ensure proper upbringing of their children, saying any child that lacked that was on the path of perdition.'Parents have a lot to do on our children. The book of Sirach says a stubborn child treads the path of perdition. So we have a lot to do on our children and we must always pray for them because they are our treasure,' he said.Bishop Ajakaye pointed out that God had a plan for each and every one of us but wondered if 'we cooperate with God in carrying out His plans for us''He charged that 'we need to get our priorities right,' adding 'when we don't get our priorities right, we live a meaningless life.'He charged members of the community on the need for their continued cooperation, saying this would ensure sustained unity and strength of the community.The Ekiti Catholic Bishop said: 'We must continue to cooperate with ourselves as Catholics because that is the strength of the Church. We must plan with God as God's plan is unique and when we work according to God's plan, we become unique people.'He also charged members of Bashiri Catholic community to continue to pray for their brothers and sisters who are currently in agony following the Christmas Day bombing of St. Theresa's Catholic Church, Madalla in Suleja, Niger State, saying they need our prayers in thier time of grief.'We must remember those who are in agony like those at St. Theresa's Catholic Church. A lot of families are still looking for their members. We must pray for ourselves and also pray for others because Christ told us that we must 'love our neighbours as ourselves.'He charged the community members to be vigilant and bring any strange fellow or movement in their community to the security agencies.The Bishop said the Federal Government needed to do more than it is currently doing on security in the country, saying the government should be proactive.
