Save us from gunmen, Ilado-Odo/Inagbe tell Fashola

Published by Tribune on Thu, 31 Mar 2011

PEOPLE OF Ilado- Odo/Inagbe Islands in Ori-Ade Local Council Development Co Area of Lagos State, have appealed to Governor Babatunde Fashola on  the need to check the incessant harassment of residents by some gunmen in the past few months.Speaking with Community News recently, one of the community leaders who was the target of the latest attack on the community, Hon. Prince Waheed Aberuagba, stated that the peaceful community in the riverine area of Lagos, was gradually being turned into a theatre of war, by unknown gun- men.According to Aberuagba, who is also the secretary of the royal family in the community, gunmen numbering about eight, who claimed to be from the Nigeria Police Force , had invaded the community around  4a.m on Sunday, harassing innocent residents of the community, while trying to force their way into his apartment. What initially aroused the communitys curiousity was the fact that though these gunmen claimed to be members of the Nigeria Police, the time they actually came to carry out the operation in the area was odd.Our fears were confirmed when we later found out that there was no record of their movement at the Nigerdock Police station, the station that oversees the security of the community. We have a strong reason to suspect that these gunmen might not even be policemen, but assassins  who were out to eliminate some prominent leaders in the community, he stated. He noted that the situation would have been worse, but for the timely intervention of the community security officials, who rallied round to chase away the invaders since  nobody was sure of what could have happened if they had not intervened.
