Duke vs. Wisconsin: Score, Celebration Highlights from 2015 NCAA Championship

Published by Bleacher Report on Tue, 07 Apr 2015

The Duke Blue Devils rallied in the second half to win the 2015 NCAA men's basketball championship on Monday over the Wisconsin Badgers 68-63 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.Tyus Jones stepped up with his best game of the Big Dance, leading all scorers with 23 points, and fellow freshman guard Grayson Allen came off the bench to score 16 in helping Duke cut down the nets.On the strength of his stupendous second half, Jones was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four:Wisconsin star senior Frank Kaminsky had 21 points and 12 rebounds, largely getting the better of counterpart Jahlil Okafor. When it mattered most, though, Okafor stepped up on both ends of the floor down the stretch, getting two key buckets and a big stop on Kaminsky.Kami Mattoli of Sporting News noticed how emotional Okafor was afterwards:Similar sentiments were on display when CNN's Rachel Nichols spoke with Jonesand when she saw the ecstatic Duke champions firsthand:Mattoli also saw Okafor and Justise Winslow cutting down the nets, as the latter first-year phenom had 11 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots to boot:Duke's official men's basketball Twitter account captured a couple of images from the victorious squad's celebration:SportsCenter's photo showed the unbridled jubilation that broke out just after the final buzzer sounded:Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski has now led his program to five national championships, further cementing his status as a legend. Only UCLA's John Wooden has more with 10, according to ESPN Stats & Info. The following number bears relevance to the future for both programs involved in Monday's marquee matchup for all the marbles:Kaminsky was Wisconsin's emotional leader and its best player without question. Replacing him will be impossibleand Sam Dekker may well go pro with one year of eligibility remaining.Duke is bound to lose the likes of Okafor and Winslow, who have the look of early lottery draft picks. After his big-time performance in Monday's contest, Jones has the chance to go to the NBA himself and could be a first-round draft choice. But Allen will be back for Duke and is fully capable of moving into the starting role if Jones is no longer around. The fact that Allen was able to step up in the Final Four is encouraging no matter what happens to the Blue Devils' roster moving forward. The caliber of freshman talent Krzyzewski can attract often outweighs what Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan does in methodically developing players, which parallels the Badgers' on-court style.Wisconsin managed to get past the ultimate team of one-and-done studs in Kentucky, but Duke's precocious players rose to the occasion. Now they're national champions, and deservedly so.
