Published by Guardian on Tue, 10 Jan 2012

SCORES of youths and elderly persons yesterday disrupted social activities in some parts of Owerri, Imo State. They stormed the Court of Appeal premises situated along Okigwe Road,Owerri protesting the alleged delay in a case between K. A. Okorie of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Chief Samuel Anyanwu of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).According to them, the case should have been heard yesterday, but on reaching the premises, they discovered that the court was not sitting. They urged that the matter should be heard before the January 10 deadline of the Electoral Act. They also demanded that the National Judicial Commission (NJC) should direct the judges at the Appeal Court Owerri to hear the election case in which Okorie had appealed against the decision of the lower governorship/ legislative petition tribunal upholding the election of Anyanwu of the PDP for Ikeduru constituency on November 11.The placards read: 'All we are saying, give us our right. Manipulation of Ikeduru case is injustice. APGA case must be deliberated upon. Corruption must stop. NJC must prevail.'The protesters also demanded that the Deputy Court Registrar (DCR) should enlist the matter for hearing, alleging that the delay was deliberate to allow the time frame elapse.
