Fuel subsidy protest: 1 die in Osun

The ongoing protestagainst the removalof fuel subsidy by the Federal Government turned sour in Osun State onTuesday when a protester died as a result of the injury he sustained on Monday from a machete cut.The deceased, Raimi Mojeed, was said to have been hit with a cutlass on Monday at Jolayemi junction in Osogbo by one Lawrence, popularly known as 'The Law,' suspected to be a political thug .According to a source, a fight ensued when Mojeed and others refused to remove the barrier they placed on the road to allow Lawrence to pass through.Lawrence, who was said to have considered this as an act of insubordination, alighted from his Honda car and engaged the protesters in an argument after which he allegedly brought out a charmed cutlass from the booth of his car and hit Mojeed.Mojeed was taken to a private hospital, where he was treated and subsequently discharged.But his health deteriorated on Monday night as he was said to have complained of discomfort.He died before dawn on Tuesday.His corpse was later taken to the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH) mortuary in Osogbo, just as aggrieved youths besieged the junction where he was said to have been inflicted with matchete cuts and sang dirges to mourn his death.Confirmingthe incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Olusegun Solomon, said the police have arrested the suspect.
